Standard mats are cut for an average height, which is precisely why taller practitioners spend half of every session with either their head or their heels hanging off the end onto a cold floor. At a full two metres, this mat covers a lying-down position with room to spare, and that single change makes savasana and floor work considerably more comfortable.

The additional thickness cushions knees, elbows and hip bones during kneeling, plank and side-lying work on hard flooring, where a thin travel mat stops being adequate quite quickly. The textured surface maintains grip as the session warms up and hands begin to sweat. The extra width matters too, particularly in wide-legged standing poses where a narrow mat forces you to adjust your stance to fit the mat rather than setting up the pose correctly.

It suits yoga, Pilates, stretching, floor-based strength work and home workouts on tile or laminate. Unroll on a flat, dry floor, and allow a new mat to air out for a day or two before first use. Wipe it down after sweaty sessions and roll it with the top surface facing outwards, which helps it lie flat rather than curling at the corners.
